Frequently Asked Questions

Counseling

  What is online counseling?

Most of us need some form of assistance at different points in their lives. Face to face counseling is the conventional method of getting assistance. However, online counseling provides similar kind of service through internet. It has added advantage of being fast, convenient, and gives a record of each session to review and use again later.

  How does online counseling work?

You just send us your concern through e-mail. When you start writing to us, take the time to present your situation clearly, including as much detail as you can. It will be read by our professional counselor and is responded within 24 hours on working days (more).

Sundays and all holidays are considered as off days. They are not counted in YES response time. If we receive your query after 4 pm on any working day followed by an off day; it would be responded on the coming working day as soon as possible.

You would be sent set of questions evaluate and understand your needs. Your query would be responded and suggestions would be provided through interactive counseling via E-mails, Phone or Skype. Post counseling a comprehensive feedback would be sought.

What issues online counseling deals with?

The counseling service provided is always tailored to your individual needs. It all depends on the issues you bring to us and what you would like to achieve. Some of the issues may be:

Career: Exploring different career options, career selection and planning, dealing with examination stress and anxiety, overcoming failure, issues related to learning and concentration, etc.

Personal: Overcoming stress, depression, low self-esteem and confidence, identity concern, crisis needs and coping, relationship issues, chemical abuse and violence issues.

Parental: Parenting issues related to their child being reserved or shy, misbehaving, disorganized, not performing well in school, etc.

We do NOT provide legal, financial or medical assistance

Who will deal with my issue online?

YES assures you that you would be counseled by one of the qualified and trained counselors. They listen to your issue objectively and non-judgmentally along with respecting you as an individual. Our professionals don’t force you to take a decision or to choose a solution; rather provide you an opportunity to gain insight and look at the situation with a new perspective. Interaction with our counselor helps to cope more effectively with everyday life and encourage you to progress towards a sense of greater well-being.

In extreme cases or when required, our counselor direct you to a specialist in the appropriate field.

When is online counseling a good choice?

E-counseling is a good choice if you face difficulty in getting to a counselor, are busy, are isolated, are uncomfortable about face to face counselling, have physical limitations, prefer the privacy, or just prefer e-mail as a convenient mode of communication. Also as you receive written responses, you can refer back to the advice repeatedly whenever required.

While there are many benefits of internet counseling, it is not appropriate for everyone and cannot replace existing therapy or medical treatments. There may be technical difficulties, which may delay responses. Do not use email or internet counseling if:

It is an emergency, if you feel suicidal, homicidal, or want to hurt yourself or someone else, immediately contact your doctor nearest emergency service.

You are addicted to drugs or alcohol or if you have a psychiatric illness.

You need intense support, phone contact, hospitalization.

You need a medical diagnosis or a prescription.

You have any psychotic symptoms.

What should I do if I don’t get initial response in 48 hours?

If you do not received an initial response from YES within 48 hours (we do not work weekends and holidays, so they are not counted response time), our email might not have been allowed into your inbox. Contact YES right away at info@yes.org.in.

The situations where this can occur is either an email server may block YES email to you or if you have spam software, or may be filtered into a folder other than your inbox. In the meantime, add the email info@yes.org.in to your trusted list of senders, contacts, address book, friends or white list.

How is the communication in internet counseling confidential and private?

YES considers confidentiality and privacy of counseling as it utmost priority. YES assures YOU that provided information would be kept confidential and would be used only for counseling purpose. No details about any individual are revealed to any employee in our organization except YES counselor.

The greatest security risk may arise from the record you keep of your e-mail. Anyone who has access to your computer could potentially read any information you keep there, including your email. We recommend that you avoid receiving mails on your official e-mail address since your employer usually has a legal right to see your email.

It is advised it use your personal e-mail address for counseling purpose. If you share a computer at work or at home, take additional precautions to ensure that no one else can see your mail.

Webinars

  What are Webinars?

A Webinar is a live webcast that you participate in while in the comfort of your own surroundings. When you register for any of the events, you will receive a unique URL that you will click on or paste into the address bar of your Internet browser. Then you will be taken to a "meeting room" where you will join other participants and the speaker. You will watch and listen to the speaker on your own computer and can ask questions via a Chat area on the screen.

  How does a Webinar work?

A webinar is conducted by utilizing an on-line software platform that enables viewers to participate via a PC or laptop.

Check your computer to make sure it meets the system administration requirements.

Enter the given password and log in in order to access the webinar. YES will send out passwords and logins prior to the webinar. This information will include the time and date of the presentation. YES will require you to logging in at least 10 minutes prior to the actual presentation time. This is done to ensure that errors are corrected before the presentation begins.

Download the software and restart your PC or laptop, if necessary. Once the software is properly downloaded, run a practice test to confirm that the software accesses the webinar with the password and login given to attend the webinar.

Dial the number you were given to access the webinar. This allows you to listen to the host of the webinar during the presentation. If you do not have a phone line available, you will be required to utilize VoIP (Voice-over-Internet protocol), which is used with headsets that plug into your PC or laptop allowing you to listen, and speak through, a digital transmission within your computer.

Join the presentation. On the screen you will be able to view: The time; a white-board; ask question; raise hand; send private message, and other icon tools needed to participate in the webinar. You will dial in with your phone or VoIP to the number given and be asked to give your name. The system will repeat your name and state your name or announce that you have entered the call.

What do I need to attend a Webinar?

A webinar is conducted by utilizing an on-line software platform that enables viewers to participate via a PC or laptop.

You'll need a webcam to participate in a webinar. If your computer doesn't have an integrated camera, you'll need to buy a USB webcam that you can plug into your computer. All participants should also make sure they have the necessary plug-ins to stream video. The program you're using should alert you if you need to download any additional software.

Even if your computer has an internal microphone and speakers, you may want to invest in stand-alone hardware for better sound quality. For the best possible experience, it's best to buy a good-quality USB headset and microphone.

Streaming live video is very data-intensive and will put your Internet connection under pressure. If you use a dial-up service or have very low broadband speeds, it's likely your webinar experience will be poor. For the best results, you'll need a high speed internet connection gives you best results.

  What are Webinar etiquettes?

On your first visit, log in at least 15 minutes before the start of the meeting since Webinar may require the installation of Java or other modules. Feel free to get set up and then leave the meeting window open while waiting for others to arrive. You can do other things on your computer as long as the meeting window remains open.

Although technical problems may arise when you make a call, for the sake of conversational flow, try and do all technical adjustments such as audio levels at the beginning of the call. Adjusting your audio/video can be very distracting to the other party and this also disrupts the conversation.

Turn off or mute your cell phone. These devices can cause interference with both the microphone and the audio in the online session.

Do not, under any circumstances, arrive late and then ask the presenter for technical help. If you arrive late and your audio isn’t working please sit quietly and prepare better the next time.

Give yourself enough time to get into the class and download and necessary applications. Don’t ask the presenter for help especially AFTER the session is set to begin.

If you’re not getting a response to your question with the raise hand button, hold it for the end of the presentation or give a verbal prompt if you’ve been invited to do so. The presenter often can’t see when someone has activated the chat window or button.
